AtMu-Ra Reiki:  Not New... Just Different!

Overview

When I set forth in March 1999 to share Reiki with those who were eager to learn, I had just completed my post training period in contemplation and meditation. I became a Certified Reiki Master on 8 Dec 1997 in the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition – from the combined lineage of Iris Ishikuro and Barbara Weber Ray (both of the 22 masters originally taught by Hawayo Takata).

It was shown to me, that I was to present what I had been taught – in a different manner. A more mystical way was required, and thus, the discipline of AtMu-Ra™ and AtMu-Ra™ Reiki was created.

AtMu-Ra™ (pronounced, ot'-moo-rah) is an ancient Kemetic term meaning, “divine light of the eternal soul”. It also has language roots in ancient Sanskrit. The discipline or technique of AtMu-Ra™ is shared in an article entitled, The Essence of AtMu-Ra™.

Traditional Reiki practiced in the West has been proven to be taught from a different angle than the original Japanese system developed by Reiki's founder, Dr. Mikao Usui. This Western style had its beginnings with Dr. Chijuro Hayashi and continued with his prime student Hawayo Takata.

AtMu-Ra™ Reiki, similar to other emerging schools of Reiki – was birthed in the Western style, but has taken a different course toward a more intuitive approach. Such an approach which stresses the use of psychic abilities and mystery, has brought these schools to full circle with Dr. Usui's original intent – personal spiritual development of students actively involved in the process of healing themselves and others.
